Parenting in Islam is guided by the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah (the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him). The following principles and practices are derived from these sources:

• Encourage Positive Actions: Nurture your child’s strengths and encourage them to engage in virtuous behaviours, such as kindness, honesty, and compassion (Qur’an 2:177, 3:134).
• Link the Child to Allah: Teach your child to develop a strong connection with Allah through prayer, recitation of the Quran, and remembrance of Allah (Qur’an 33:41-43, Sunnah: Establishing prayer and reciting the Quran).
• Set Clear Boundaries and Expectations: Establish clear rules and expectations, while being firm yet gentle, as Allah is gentle with those who fear Him (Qur’an 3:159, 22:37).
• Practice Patience and Forgiveness: Develop patience and forgiveness, as Allah is patient and forgives those who repent (Qur’an 8:53, 39:53).
• Model Good Behaviour: As parents, model the behaviour you wish to see in your children, as children learn from observing their parents (Qur’an 16:43, Sunnah: The Prophet’s exemplary behaviour).
• Encourage Respect and Obedience: Teach your child to respect and obey their parents, as Allah has commanded (Qur’an 17:23-24, 31:17).
• Seek Allah’s Guidance: Seek guidance from Allah in your parenting journey, and trust that He will guide you (Qur’an 2:186, 16:91).

These principles, rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah, provide a comprehensive framework for parents to raise their children according to Islamic values and teachings.
